Pellet started around 1996, playing 3rd rate Nirvana rip-offs and covers in a living room in Bishopbriggs. At this time they comprised of Lauren (vocals and guitar), Mike (vocals and guitar), Geoff (bass and pre-pubescent backing) and Graham (drums). After a while they sacked Lauren (on account of her gender, obviously) and played their first gig at a packed church hall in the South side of Glasgow. Unfortunately A+M Records refused to sign them, and Graham left in 1997. By this time it was just Geoff and Mike, two eminently bourgeois individuals with a penchant for Green Day (and buggery). They advertised for a drummer, and the only reply they received was from Scott, a kid with a murky past who could drum for food. From then on (late 97) Pellet began jamming and ridding themselves of the Nirvana influence that threatened to elide their individuality, only to find themselves sounding curiously like NOFX. With this three piece line-up they played quite a few gigs in pubs and shit in Glasgow, and at their very fist gig met the lovely Destructos and 3D Scream. However Pellet's audiences rapidly began to dwindle, and they came to realise that actually, they weren't that good. After recording a shitty demo at Carlton Studios, Glasgow in 1998, and more gigs here and there, Pellet decided they need something more, and poached Jamie, 3D Scream's guitarist, whose penchant for Maiden began to change the sound once more. Tragically, Mike left in early 2000, fearing for his life after a routine inspection by the fashion police turned nasty, which returned the group to a three-piece.
Well here we are now, having just finished a mini-cd for Self Destruct, entitled Criminal Injuries, as a way of thanking the kind Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, as well as the friendly inhabitants of Glasgow, without whom the production of this record would have been impossible. They're touring with Los Destructos soon, and have recently added MGE guitarist Jim to their line-up. |
